![]() At Bramberi Farm we are dedicated to the production of Naturally Grown Berries, managing the crops and the entirety of the farm with sustainable agricultural practices. Our Berry Production Practices have been accepted as Certified Naturally Grown to ensure you get the most wholesome berries on the Market.
Our first Raspberry and Blackberry plants were planted in February 2014 with productive first & second year harvests. We are growing MANY varieties of raspberry and blackberry, with the earliest ripening in May and the latest producing until Autumn Frost - in 2015, this was mid-November. The Bramble-Berries' (or Caneberries) soil is enriched with homemade compost: aged manure from the sheep, goats and chickens, clippings from the pasture and yard, topped off with garden and kitchen scraps. Most of Bramberi's raspberries are grown in hoophouses to protect the berries from sunburn and water-logging and extend the growing season. Existing Rabbiteye Blueberry plants have been joined by varieties of Northern Highbush and Southern Highbush, yielding berries from May to mid-August. Strawberries are grown both hydroponically and soil-based in vertical growing systems to reduce weed and pest impact. We have tried both June-bearing and Everbearing varieties and are transitioning more to Everbearing in 2016. Flower and herb gardens round out the botanical areas. Bramberi Farm has roughly 5 acres of pasture that is being reclaimed from years of neglect, having been overrun with Privet, brambles, honeysuckle, and dogfennel. Goats and sheep were set into the pastures and forest-edges to clean up the weeds and brush and to keep the pastures trim. We are currently producing Lamb, Kids, Eggs and will be expanding this line in the near future. So be sure to check back. Check out our Flora and Fauna Pages for the latest Varieties, and their Harvest Season, as well as visit the four-legged critters calling Bramberi home. |
About Us
We are Joern and Ann Seigies, recovering agricultural sojourners, putting down roots and letting blossoms grow. Our sojourning years saw us travelling & briefly settling in the East, West, and then Mountain States, and working as Development Practitioners in Developing Nations (The Sojourners). We have long been involved in agriculture, but not as bonafide farmers, bearing the risks and rejoicing in the rewards.
Joern comes to Bramberi Farm with skills and education in Livestock Handling, Sustainable Environmental Management, and general business practices, having worked on farms in New York and California, in the corporate sector, and in International Rural and Agricultural Development.
Ann holds degrees in Horticulture from UGA and Cornell, and has worked in Botanical Garden, production orchard, and community garden settings, and yearns to see these fully developed at Bramberi as the manager of the Berries and Gardens.
